Tandoor

A tandoor is a cylindrical clay oven, similar to a traditional conical beehive shape but with a hole in the top, used across southern Asia and in the UK in restaurants serving Indian and asian cuisine.

A tandoor is a cylindrical clay oven used across the UK in restaurants serving Indian and asian cuisine.

If you have ever had a dish described as “tandoori”, then this has meant the meat or fish, such as tandoori chicken, has been cooked in the tandoor.

The tandoor is usually heated by charcoal, which gives a very high and intense heat, ideal for baking naan quickly when stuck to the side of the tandoor.
