Biscotti are great for serving with coffee after a meal or frankly any time.
As their name indicates, they are baked twice; firstly to cook the dough, which is removed from the oven, cooled, sliced into the traditional pieces and laid on the baking sheet again and cooked for another 10 minutes to bake the soft biscuits further into a much harder texture.
They can be flavoured with all sorts of ingredients such as chocolate and pistachio, lemon and almond, orange, dried cherries and so on.
